Miike here is exploring the idea of reality TV and voyeurism and I believe the whole point is to really just jump to extremes to really confuse us about what to feel about this movie. It can be funny, horrific or totally barbaric, just like reality TV.
The shamed news reporter father in it is obviously completely deluded and an example of the total confusion of reality an example would be the scene where his house is getting bombarded with firecrackers and he starts filming the whole fiasco shouting ‘reporter lingo’ and going ‘how should we feel, how’ which is basically the question we ask ourselves throughout this travesty of a movie, but I didn’t say it was a bad travesty.
